What materials cannot be cut on a laser cutter?
It depends on the laser.
When I was at TechShop, there were three lists of materials; materials that worked well with the laser, materials that worked poorly with the laser, and materials that, if they caught you putting them in the laser, you would be barred from the facility.
A number of plastics give out deadly or corrosive gases, and some of those gases can attack the lenses thus damaging the cutter. But a cutter designed to work with those materials could otherwise cut them no problem.
I should note here that these ranged from 40 to 80 watts and were as commonly used for engraving as for cutting. I personally only did acrylic and wood, but I witnessed engraving being done on anodized aluminium, leather, and stone.
