Modern laser cutting systems can cut carbon steel sheets with a maximum thickness of close to 0.1mm. The heat affected zone of laser cutting mild steel is extremely small, and the incision is flat, smooth and vertical. For high carbon steel, the edge quality of laser cutting is better than that of low carbon steel, but its heat affected zone is larger.
Most alloy steels can be cut with a laser with good edge quality. However, tool steel and hot work die steel with high tungsten content will produce corrosion and slag inclusion during laser cutting.
Copper material is not suitable for laser cutting, and the cutting is very thin. Most titanium and titanium and nickel alloys can be laser cut.
