Fiber lasers operate at approximately 1/10th the wavelength of CO2 lasers. This allows you to produce a focused beam size 1/10th the size, and since power is a measure of waters per square centimeter, having a beam size means it is effectively 10X more powerful watt-to-watt.
The smaller beam size means smaller cutting kerf. So we were shown samples where the cut part stays in the sheet and has to be pushed out because the laser cut away so little material.
The smaller spot size and increased power mean it can cut metals while introducing less heat into the material. This means you can cut finer details with less warping.
